Tourists at home

Third Culture Kids (TCKs) are people who have spent a large amount of their childhood growing up outside of their parents’ home country. These kids create a third culture which is unique to their experiences. The third culture is made up of both the parents’ culture and the host country’s culture. TCKs don’t have full ownership of any culture since they grew up in at least two different countries. Often, they feel alienated once they return to their home countries.

Tourists at Home is an experimental typographic publication documenting the journey of two twin-Thai TCKs (myself and my twin brother) in order to show the different perspectives a multicultural upbringing could have on identity, language, and repatriation. Through this publication, I hope non-TCKs gain a better understanding of multicultural identities. Furthermore, I hope TCKs who are struggling with their identities could use this publication as an example to combat their feelings of alienation from society.
