“Social-emotional learning skills” is an important skillset that includes self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and decision making. Children who have all of these skills will be able to control their emotions and behaviors while maintaining positive relationships and get through challenging situations.
My project “Eggy’s on edge” is a character design project that helps children between 6-8 years old to develop their social-emotional learning skills through character “Eggy”.
“Eggy is a 7 years old kid who is an egg. Every time Eggy has a strong feeling or emotion, an animal will break out of eggy’s shell. Some animals are mean to other people, but it’s impossible to force them to stay inside the shell. So Eggy has to let them out and tame them to be nice instead. Let's see how Eggy handles these crazy animals!”
My project is divided into 3 parts, the first one is a short animation which is the introduction of the character of Eggy.
The second one is a set of four picture books in both Thai and English versions. Children can learn how to respect other people and control their emotions by identifying how Eggy deals with different animals in each book.
The bookcase is designed in a format that is interactive. When you pull the book out of the box, it will look like you are pulling an animal out of Eggy’s shell.
Eggy and The Crazy Crocodile
This story is about Nina, a bossy girl who always makes Eggy mad. When Eggy was at a point where he couldn’t stand Nina anymore, the crocodile breaks out of Eggy’s shell and attacks Nina!!
The story is about Ole, a boy who always has a runny nose. Ole’s dirtiness makes Eggy want to run away, but suddenly the Octopus breaks out of Eggy’s shell and shoots ink at Ole!!
Eggy and The Jolly Bird
The story is about Pao, Eggy’s best friend. Birds always break out of Eggy’s shell every time Eggy hangs out with Pao. Meanwhile, Pao never shows any expression. How can Eggy make Pao smile??
Eggy and The Wicked Snake
The story is about Gigi, Eggy’s little sister. Eggy is upset that Gigi’s drawing skill is better than his own. But is it really okay to let the snake break out of the shell and bite her?
The last one is a plushie of Eggy, which is a 3D version that children can touch and play with.
