The Mother (มนุษย์แม่) book explores the diverse and complex realities of motherhood in Thai society, challenging the mainstream ideal of the “perfect mother.” Structured as a chronological journey through various locations in Bangkok, from Khlong Toei to Benjasiri Park, the project utilizes a book format to document the lived experiences of mothers who often face significant economic and structural pressures. By employing an autoethnographic approach, the narrative blends personal reflection with documentary photography to shed light on stories of financial necessity and personal resilience, such as the “labor behind labor” experienced by working-class mothers. Ultimately, the project seeks to expand the visual language of maternal identity, replacing symbolic ideals with the sincere and authentic voices of women whose stories are often left unspoken.
