Shophouse Stories

This box is a portable exhibition that explores the stories of modern shophouses beyond the facade.

While these buildings are often seen as ordinary and repetitive, they hold layers of adaptation through economic, social, and cultural dimensions.

The first layer, “The Living Story” looks at real lived in experiences, both collective and personal memories.

The second layer, “The Building Story” is a board game where the viewer gets to experience what it’s like to live in and adapt with a shophouse. Which shifts the audience from being a passive observer to becoming an active participant.
