The Metropolis 2050

Most modern cities tend to look more and more alike due to the process of hyper-modernization. This idea aligns with the concept of "Generic City", an urban theory introduced by architect Rem Koolhaas, describing cities that have abandoned identity, history, and context in favor of efficiency and global conformity. The end result is the loss of local identity and urban uniqueness.

The Metropolis is a speculative urban news magazine set in the year 2050. It invites readers to reflect on such highly efficient urban spaces they inhabit and ultimately the definition of a livable city in the possible near future.

The project encourages the audience to think about the cost of modernization. As Bangkok accelerates towards modernization and maximized utility, is it still able to maintain individuality in the backdrop of skyscrapers and expanding mega projects, or is its local identity simply fading away?
